Whether you're planning a 15-person office lunch or a 300-guest wedding reception, the question is the same: how do you feed everyone well without the stress? Here's exactly how our catering works at Desi Tadka — what we offer, how we price it, and what makes Indian food an excellent choice for any Ottawa event.
Why Indian Food Works So Well for Catering
Indian food is built for feeding crowds. The dishes scale easily, they hold heat well, the flavours are bold enough to stay vibrant in large batches, and the variety means there's always something for every dietary preference — meat, vegetarian, and vegan options all in the same spread.
Beyond logistics, Indian food creates a memorable experience. At most Ottawa events, guests remember the food. A butter chicken and naan spread at a corporate lunch gets talked about. A full Punjabi buffet at a wedding becomes part of the celebration. That's not just food — it's hospitality.
Our Catering Options
We offer three main formats depending on the size and style of your event:
What to Include in Your Catering Order
If you're not sure where to start, here's a menu that works well for almost any Ottawa event with a mix of Indian and non-Indian guests:
Crowd-Pleasing Mains
Butter Chicken is non-negotiable — it's the one dish that everyone from any background tends to love. Pair it with Palak Paneer (spinach and cheese, vegetarian) to cover vegetarian guests. Add Chicken Biryani if you want a rice dish in the mix.
Sides That Complete the Spread
Dal Makhani (lentils in butter and cream) is a rich, mild side that works as a comfort dish for guests who want something lighter. Raita (yogurt with cucumber) is essential — it cools everything down and guests who aren't used to Indian spices will appreciate it.
Bread
Always order more naan than you think you need. It disappears faster than anything else on the table. Garlic naan is the most popular; butter naan is the safest option for mixed groups.
Always include at least one very mild option (like butter chicken or dal makhani) and label your dishes. Guests who aren't used to Indian food will feel more comfortable exploring the menu when they know what to expect.
How to Book
The easiest way is to call us directly at 613-421-0331 or fill out the catering form on our website. We ask for at least 48 hours notice for tray orders and at least one week for full buffet events. For weddings and large events, book as early as possible — popular dates fill up fast.
We serve all of Ottawa — Bells Corners, Stittsville, Kanata, Nepean, Barrhaven, Gloucester, and the downtown core. Delivery charges apply based on distance.
Who We've Fed
Over the past six years, we've catered Punjabi weddings with 400+ guests, small office lunches of 15 people, university graduation dinners, Diwali events, corporate team meetings, and birthday parties for two-year-olds and eighty-year-olds. Every event is different. The food is always the same: fresh, made that day, and built to impress.
If you're planning an event in Ottawa and want Indian catering that people will actually remember, we'd love to be part of it.
